I hate to say it, but I stepped into enemy territory the other day. And loved it! I love my Spartans, but the Wolverines live in a pretty cool city. I have lived in Michigan my entire life, but never realized just how big Ann Arbor really is! We spent about 6 hours there and we are already making plans to go back because we didn’t get to go everywhere we wanted to. Let me share with you some of my favorite places we discovered today…
#1: The Songbird Cafe
Our first stop! When we pulled into the parking lot and saw that it was in a crappy looking strip mall… we were weary of it. But the moment we walked in, the worries melted away with the reclaimed wood, subway tiles, and a PACKED house! Oh, and the smell was out of this world. I ordered an egg white omelette with mushrooms and goat cheese and a lavender latte. Definitely going back!
#2: Babo: A Market by Sava’s
I love, love, love markets! They always have fresh produce and locally made products. Babo’s had an amazing coffee and wine bar too. Does it GET any better?! I bought some fresh produce, a glass of wine, and the most delicious pistachio + sea salt dark chocolate. They also had an array of prepared foods that looked really good. I had my eye on the quinoa salad, but was too full from eating brunch at The Songbird Cafe!
#3: Lab Cafe
Anything crisp, clean, and white and we’re there. It’s like a bloggers dreamland. Lab has minimal decorations. It all has to do with coffee and/or plants. Perfect! I ordered a six-one-six brew (Madcap Coffee) with a splash of almond milk, Vanessa ordered a chai latte, and Andrea got an iced vanilla latte.
#4: Graffiti Ally
We walked by a really cool ally that was 110% graffiti – it was pretty cool.
#5: Rock, Paper, Scissors
I love paper and stationary and cute desk supplies. This place is a MUST if you love that type of stuff too! 🙂 They had really cute coffee mugs too. Oh! And a whole area where you can custom design wedding, party, shower, birthday invitations.
#6: Frita Batido’s
Our last stop! Dinner. Cuban cuisine for the win! I ordered the black bean frita with guacamole and no spicy-mayo. It was so delicious. A little greasy for me, but it was still super good! They top all frita’s with crispy shoestring fries… mind-blowing. We also ordered one fresh lime batido with rum in it to split… I accidentally hogged it and drank the whole thing. Oops!
Well, if you’re headed to Ann Arbor, I hope this helps you! All pictures were taken by either Andrea or myself.
