If you guys follow me on Instagram, you know that I’ve been drinking a tea called Olyxir every morning. I’ve been drinking it for about 3 weeks now and wanted to share what I thought about it with you guys! A few months ago, I was listening to a lecture and I learned about the vast amount of polyphenols that are found in olives and their byproducts. I was specifically learning about extra virgin olive oil and how only olive oil contains a polyphenol called oleocanthal, which acts almost like an ibuprofen. Interesting, right?! I then heard about this company,
It is January, which means the #Whole30January is in full swing! This is something that I like to do every year. The Whole30 has seen some controversy recently, but coming from someone who has done 3 times now – I love it. It is described as a ‘nutritional reset’ and that is exactly what I need after the holidays. I feel so good after completing it. My skin glows, my hair is shiny, my energy is through the roof, and it has helped me keep my sweet tooth in check (big win for me!). I am also quite the wine
As we head deeper into November, the weather still has me craving all things pumpkin. This has been one of the hottest Falls I have ever experienced in the Michigan. It is already the second week of November and every day has been in the 60s and sunny! It is absolutely gorgeous. Fall in Michigan is my favorite time of year. If you follow along on my Instagram (@ashleyellenhoward), I’m sure you’ve already seen my 20,347,203 pictures of the leaves 😉 #sorrynotsorry I got home from my workout this morning (at FLEXcity Fitness!) and was starving. I whipped up a
Smoothies should be a staple in every household. They are quick, nutritious, easy to make, and perfect for on-the-go. You can hide so many greens in smoothies, but still have it taste like dessert! I love to add protein powder to all of my smoothies because I hate drinking just protein powder + water. I like the consistency to be a bit thicker and with more substance. My favorite protein powder (at the moment) is Paleo Pro protein powder (I love the aztec vanilla). It is all natural, soy-free, whey-free, and contains beef and egg protein. I love that it
Latte’s of any sort make me happy. I’m always trying new things and new recipes. My most recent experiment was a matcha latte with coconut milk. I am currently on the Whole 30 and dairy is not allowed; therefore, I used coconut milk. You are more than welcome to use almond mylk with this recipe if you are not a fan of coconut! But I found that the matcha and coconut complimented each other very well. This past Christmas I bought Sam a Nespresso machine and it came with a milk frother. Coolest. Thing. Ever. I use it all of
Homemade almond mylk is one of my favorite things to make – especially due to it’s secret ingredients. Plain almond mylk is delicious, but I like to add nutty and caramel notes to mine. Almond mylk is great for so many things. Cereals, latte’s, smoothies, or plain jane! It is thick and creamy, similar to cow’s milk, but so much better for you. I make big batch’s of this weekly and Sam and I devour it! Feel free to mix this recipe up! I add two dates for a little sweetness and it adds a hint of caramel – delicious!
The best part of winter is making rich hot chocolate! Only downside is that often times hot chocolate is very high in calories, sugar, and fat. Eeek. Luckily, I have found the best *pure hot chocolate recipe that is still very rich, creamy, and chocolatey! I topped mine with CoCoWhip by So Delicious. It is dairy free, non-GMO, gluten free, vegan, no hydrogenated oils, and zero trans fat. WINNING! It has a coconutty taste, too, that has me wanting to swan-dive into the container. I love the taste of peppermint so I added some crushed candy cane on top of mine.
Happy Monday, good morning, and MERRY CHRISTMAS! Thanksgiving is over, which means it is officially time to listen to Christmas music 24/7 and have Christmas movie marathons. EEEEK! I freaking love this season. The cozy sweaters, crackling fire, hot chocolate (amazing recipe coming soon), and your loved ones all in the same house! Life. Is. Good. I hope your weekend was filled with lots of laughter, love, and shopping! And some quality sleep 🙂 After a delicious Thanksgiving meal(s), I’m in need of a refreshing green smoothie! This is my favorite recipe. Simple and super creamy. Smoothies are great to
If you’ve never heard of golden milk, you’re in for treat – a delicious one. It is one of my favorite night time drinks (other than tea). What makes it golden? I’m glad you asked. Turmeric! This B.A. spice contains many nutrients, particularly in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and anti-carcinogenic (cancer fighting) agents. This drink is so warm and comforting, peppery, and has the right amount of richness thanks to the coconut oil. Whip this up before bedtime and start to drift off… (after that glass of vino, of course). It has been a super busy week (good busy). New things happening
Ooooooo baby, it’s FRIYAY! And it is also Sam and I’s 4-year anniversary! Crazy how time flies. To celebrate, I thought I would make the perfect fall drink! This drink is everything that fall is: crisp, delicious, cinnamony (that’s a word, right?), and full of color and flavor! You’re gonna wanna save this whole pitcher for yourself. At least I did. But I mean, it is our anniversary, so I shared 😉 Honeycrisp apples are the crème de la crème to Fall. Favorite apple by far (sorry, Granny Smith). I could live off of these bad boys. This delicious ball
